The last few weeks have been quite hectic as I am finishing up my spring/summer line. As a native Angeleno, I had to start with this season (even though it’s a tad bit late). I love some of the styles that have come off the high fashion runways lately. I am also inspired by the lightheartness children bring us everyday.
See you online soon!

My seven year-old and I visited a cute boutique across from the post office in Valley Village yesterday. It’s called Sandbox Rebel and is run by a young designer named Jodi Lee Middleton. If you love funky and edgy baby clothes, this may be the place. They also do custom orders and everything is hand crafted.
My favorite was the reversible dress/top in a cute “vintage wallpaper” print.

I’ve been wondering what the difference is between sustainable and organic clothing for a while. I felt like I mostly understood organic after going to Whole Foods so many times. Organic is all-natural so I assume that organic cotton is free of chemicals in the cottons and dyes. Sustainable, on the other hand, is less understood. I found some really good information on the internet that has shed light on the subject.
Sustainable clothing considers more than the origin and ingredients of the clothing. It also moves to improve:
1. The Environment – sustainable processes are all about working to keep safe eco-system for humans and other animals. This includes not adding to pollution and recycling materials. A difference here between organic is that all sustainable clothing may not necessarily be natural. As long as a process is safe for the environment and humans, it can be considered sustainable.
The MTS Unified Sustainable Textile Standard specifies that a sustainable textile can be natural fiber or synthetic, petrochemical-based as long as throughout its supply chain all processes are environmentally-friendly and protect the health of humans and ecological systems. The MTS Unified Sustainable Textile Standard also establishes acceptable levels of emissions in textiles and garments from toxic chemicals such as carcinogenic or reproductive toxicant Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) and formaldehyde.
I personally feel that sustainable technology may be more practical and economically viable since it allows recycling.

My favorite personal style is when you take what you like from trends and add them to your own style. The best style is not so much about trends as it is about grooming and tailoring. Even the lack of grooming and tailoring can say something about you.
Neiman Marcus posted an ad in InStyle Magazine recently that listed the “Next Big Things” or “Ten Must Haves” for the season. My goal as a baby apparel designer is to take the trends and make them relevant for babies. Reinterpret styles and make more than just cute baby clothes.
1. Patent leather
2. Flat shoes – I really love cute flat shoes now – it makes a lot of sense for mommies carrying babes!
3. Eyelet
4. Cropped Jackets – I love well tailored jackets; something worth the splurge.
5. Above the knee hemlines in everything from t-shirts with jeans to dresses
6. Statement rings
7. Silver accessories – bags, belts and shoes especially. I really think some of the bags are cute, but I’d rather invest in a really nice red bag.
8. Wide belts – worn higher up on the waistline; they give a nice siloette.
9. Delicate blouses
10. Dresses
I am not sure why dresses made the list. With summer fast approaching Los Angeles, women always wear dresses in the unbearable heat. Still, it is a ‘must have’.
